recent obsessions

Recently I have been working on redecorating my apartment. I have had so much fun picking out lamps, rugs and placemats! I found so many cute things, which made the decisions difficult at times. I learned that when decorating it is key to take your time deciding between items. The more love you put into something, the more rewarding the result is.

Here are a few items I was fortunate enough to have found:

Etsy

Missoni inspired rug from Urban Outfitters

Modern block lamp from Target

Life Lasting

I hate jeans. There, I said it. I am not a fan of the denim pant. I find them restricting and uncomfortable sometimes.  I wear leggings everywhere, because as of recently it is the only alternative I have found.

But, now, I am the proud owner of too many pairs of J. Crew pixie pants. These pants fit like leggings and are thick enough to keep you warm! They last a lifetime. I am so obsessed with them!!

Spring has Sprung?

It was 60 degrees in Kansas City today. That is not normal JANUARY weather. Is it safe to say spring came early this year? We can only hope! But for now I am just going to day dream about spring trends.

Color blocking is huge this season. Pairing two bright colors together not only gives you more options from your closet but it also allows you to re-wear pieces.

Mixing and matching colors is so easy. All you have to do is look in your closet for two solid color pieces of clothing! Who would have thought that emerald green pants would compliment a dark plum blouse so well?

Happy blocking!

New Year, New Moments

2011 has been a year for the record books for sure. The memories that were made in 2011 were so special and I hope they will be bigger and better in 2012! This year started with a family trip to New Orleans, for Mardi Gras and my cousin Sally’s 21st birthday. This weekend was unforgettable. We hit the ground running with parades and hand-grenades.  The year went on with trips with my friends to New York City and Las Vegas. I received a fantastic opportunity to be the Executive Director of Rock Chalk Revue at the University of Kansas.  And I moved into my Senior year of college!

This year was full of so much laughter and of so much love. I got to spend so much time with my family and friends and had some of the best moments. I can only hope that 2012 brings as much happiness as 2011, and I have to admit I have a good feeling! Wishing everyone all the best in 2012.

a very drape christmas

Like most, Christmas is a very special time of year for my family. I have a really big, obnoxious, loud family and I love nothing more than sitting around a table full of food and wine and laughing with them. This year we are so lucky, we are all going to be in one place at one time! My dad is one of five; I am one of ten cousins. And this year all of us will be together on Christmas.

My family inspires me to try my hardest at everything I do and to never give up. “Success is only measured by how hard you try,” my Dad always says to us. They are so supportive and special to me. I wanted to take this moment to reflect on how lucky we are to have such wonderful people in our lives. These are people that want us to be creative and express the things we love to do.

I am so thankful for my family and this wonderful time of year. Enjoy every moment of it with yours!

XOXO

Edgy Everyday

This season I have a goal to accessorize all my outfits. This is my favorite piece of jewelry for this season. And for once, this is NOT J. CREW. I know, I couldn’t believe it either. However, it is a close second. This stunning necklace is from Madewell, J. Crews sister store.

It goes with everything. I wear it to class with jeans, a white top and a camel sweater or with a cute bright blue dress. This is a must purchase for anyone looking to bring a little edginess into their outfits!

Accessorizing Fall

Fall is finally here! To celebrate I want to showcase some of my favorite accessories for this season.

Something I love about accessories is the fact that accessories allow you to change the tone of your outfit. Accessories are also so great because they let you wear the same dress or outfit numerous times. For example, maybe you have the one perfect little black dress. You want to wear it every weekend, and now you can! Just add a chunky beaded or gold necklace or chandelier earrings. The outfit as a whole completely changes, allowing for your style and attitude to improve.

This is one of the best necklaces I have seen this season. The green colors would accept any outfit it is placed with. Color blocking is “the” thing to accomplish for fall. Bright colors are back and (hopefully) to stay.
